Welcome Picnic(5-24-00):
At the beginning of the summer the student and mentors are invited to a barbeque picnic. This gives everyone a chance to meet, if they haven't already, and have fun. There was food, from Bob's, and games to play. Prizes were awarded to the students in the meteorology quiz game, and as always in the heat...a water balloon toss. Everone joined in, even ALL the mentors!! No one was drenched, well untill after the picnic. The students, and a couple of mentors, this year out played everyone by continuing a ultimate frizbee game well into the evening.
Dallas/Fort Worth(6-2-00):
After the day of tours, we settled down for a little mexican food. This was a nice relaxing time after the day, and a great intro to the baseball game. We attended a Texas Ranger's ballgame against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Pizza Lunches:
REU has a biweekly piazza lunch, held at OU or NSSL. The students are able to relax together with the mentors, and of course have pizza!! During the lunch the students update everyone on how their research is coming. This allows everyone, especially the mentors to keep up on all the research. This summer we were lucky enough to enjoy the company of a few other OU affiliated REU's around campus.
Other Activities:
Most of the students this summer were not from the area, so getting out and seeing the region was important to them. They had time to storm chase, camp, rollerblade, and rock climb! These were not REU associated events and allowed the students some fun time away from the work to enjoy each others company.
