Welcome to My Storm Chase Archive
Part of being a passsionate researcher of severe weather often ties
back to personal encounters with severe weather in the first place. Ever since I was a kid, I have
always loved to run outside to experience severe weather events while others were running inside. Now that
I can drive, I am using a car to do the same, and hence you have this section of my webpage! It is my philosophy
that personal encounters with weather phenomena can make important contributions towards studying the
event. There are certain elements to experiencing the unpredicitability, ferocity and beauty of thunderstorm,
tornado and hurricane events that I sincerely believe contributes to my potential as a research scientist of such
storms. Sure there is the sexy glamour of the danger of being a "storm chaser" and risking your life in the elements
that many find attractive. However I find more interest in deciphering what the sky is telling me, gathering
forecast data and observations, and then applying these resources to manuever a group through well-oiled teamwork (and often
split second decisions) to a point where we can experience these things in both a recreational and scientific manner.
Don't get me wrong, I love the adrenaline rush just as much as every chaser does! But it's unlikely you will see my core-punching
a supercell during the middle of the night just so I can sound like I am braver than the next guy.
My chase vehicle is a 2003 Subaru Outback. Check it out here!
My main chase partner is Owen Shieh, check him out at www.untamedskies.com
